Body and Appearance 1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Canon information seems to waffle between putting him at 177cm / 66kg (5'10" / 146 lb) and 180cm / 75kg (5'11" / 165 lb). Kid has a pretty skinny build, kind of like a swimmer -- long legs, lightly toned muscles, broad shoulders and slender limbs. Though he's not really that tall, his build makes him come across as pretty lanky; it's especially exaggerated when he's in his football uniform.
2. How old is he?
Seventeen. Looks a bit older.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Kid doesn't exactly have excellent posture -- he tends to walk with his shoulders slightly hunched and his thumbs hooked over his belt or pockets. Slouches heavily when he's sitting, or just hunches over with his elbows propped on his knees. It's mostly his way of trying to blend in and not draw too much attention to himself. 4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
In good physical condition, very fit from daily practices with the football team. No real illnesses, conditions or disabilities. 5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He tends to move in a fairly slow, languid way when off the field -- mostly to mask the fact that he's actually got incredible dexterity and reflexes, but also partly just because he likes to take things easy. Fluid and graceful, but at his own pace. On field, he's extremely efficient and reacts to things almost instantaneously. 6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
It's kind of hard to say if Kid is actually good-looking or not -- he does have a slight, rogue-ish, mature charm to him, but he's not exactly fabulously handsome. Kind of okay-looking, might be the best way to put it. Kid generally views himself as presentable, but not anything special. He's happy as long as his looks don't draw too much attention, really. 7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Slightly tanned and rugged from spending so much time practicing out on the field. A few scrapes here and there, but no notable scars. 8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Black hair left long-ish and pretty messy. His bangs, especially, are pretty long and loose, usually with a few strands sweeping over his face and most of it poking out the rim of his helmet. There's something ridiculously messy going on with his sideburns and his hair at the back, though it's hard to say exactly what. Also, he seems to have a permanent five-o-clock shadow.
9. What color are his eyes?
Dark-brown/black.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Though it's less evident as the series goes on, his eyebrows have an odd W-like squiggle at outer ends, close to his temples. He also tends to be drawn with extremely deep-set, 'sleepy' eyes. Another thing that's faded more and more as the series progressed, but he also originally had extremely prominent cheekbones and a rather lean build to his face.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Hands?
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Almost embarrassingly similar to an old-school cowboy. Collared 'western' shirts, often topped with a frayed-edge jean vest, and a large red bandanna. Long jeans, and leather shoes or cowboy boots. Also, he often goes around in a huge, obnoxious cowboy hat. 13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Despite his low-key nature, Kid doesn't seem to mind the oddness of his usual attire. The modern-day-cowboy look fits him pretty well, and he always seems comfortable in it.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
All the time, except when he's on the football field. Of course, on the football field he goes with standard football attire -- except when he's chilling on the bench, then he'll sometimes trade his helmet off for his usual cowboy hat. 15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
I wonder. ;D
Speech 1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
A little deep, a little husky, pretty quiet. 2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Kid tends to talk at a soft volume, generally at a fairly lax pace, and very rarely raises his voice beyond its usual soft mutter. He does tend to waffle over his words somewhat -- it's an even split between littering his sentences with pauses ("well" "hmm" "eh" etc.) and just thinking for a few moments before opening his mouth.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He tends to draw out his words a bit and punctuate his sentences with speech disfluencies -- he usually knows what he's going to say, but he's just somewhat picky about the exact wording he uses. Also interesting to note is the fact that he refers to most people the same age or older than him, even people he dislikes, by the honorific "-shi" (-氏), which is a fairly distant, respectful way of referring to people.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Fluent in Japanese, presumably knows some English since he probably does well in class.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He probably could be a decent impromptu speaker, but would dislike it enough to feign incompetency. Kid always prefers to think over his words a bit more and choose his words carefully, rather than just belting out what's on his mind.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Somewhere in the middle. Though he's extremely intelligent, Kid tends to go with a fairly layman-friendly vocabulary and speaks in a pretty colloquial manner, "um"s and "well"s and "hmm"s all intact. He doesn't ever really change his speech to sound more eloquent, but he does occasionally flare up into an angrier snarl -- only when it's Tetsuma or his teammates that are insulted.
Mental and Emotional 1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Extremely smart. One of the omake pages shows that Kid has one the highest grades of characters in the series -- better than Takami or Unsui, and comparable to Hiruma or Agon. So, very book-smart. His street-smartness is a bit debatable, although the fact that he ran away from home at age twelve and has generally done well since then probably means he's not street-dumb, at least.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He likes to deliberate. Any 'daring' or 'risky' tendencies have been scared and/or beaten out of him, and so Kid always prefers to think things over and go with safer options when given the choice. However, he's perfectly capable of making snap decisions when called for -- especially if it's something on the football field. Although he's not really a 'calculative genius,' he makes up for it with his reflexes and instincts, and can execute extremely strategic plans or effective bluffs on the fly.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Logical and practical. He does have some small sparks of quick, intuitive, idealistic hope left to him, but he tries his very hardest to play things safe and suppress them. 4. What kind of education has the character had?
Presumably, he would have had a top-notch education during his younger years, complete with rigorous pistol training from his father. It's a little harder to say what happened after he fan away from home, but seeing as his grades are so excellent, he's probably steadily attended middle school and high school without problems. 5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Hard to say if he has any real areas of expertise. Gym and sports, obviously. He seems like the type who'd be a general jack-of-all-trades -- high grades across the board, but nothing that he especially excels in or has difficulty at. 6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Slight introvert. He doesn't especially dislike crowds, or have a hard time socializing, but he always likes to have some private time to himself. He also tends to internalize all of his thought processes, and doesn't actually say anything or express himself without carefully thinking everything over. 7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Extremely even-tempered. It's hard to ever get him worked up -- positively or negatively -- about anything, except when his teammates are insulted. Laid-back about pretty much everything as well, although he does have a desire for success deep down inside, he just hides it fairly well. He could probably be classified as 'cheerful' in most cases, although it would be in a fairly subdued manner -- he's usually good-natured and upbeat in a very dry, understated way.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Relaxed, and pretty friendly! He doesn't have any qualms about introducing himself or getting to know strangers, and he's usually very polite. He's unlikely to really open up to anyone, but that's more about everyone in general, rather than just towards strangers. 9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
React. He doesn't really like starting anything.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Somewhere in between. Generally, he's the type to take flight instead of fighting back immediately -- mostly because he rarely sees the need to defend himself, and doesn't have high enough pride to dislike fleeing. However, he'll occasionally flare up and let loose everything he's been bottling up, mostly when his teammates are insulted. 11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Very dry, a little cynical. Kid seems to find genuine humor in the ups and downs of his and his team's luck, as dryly as he might take it. 12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Not really.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Probably when he placed fifth at the youth beam-pistol tournament and was shunned by his father for failing to place first -- though that was most likely just the breaking point after a long childhood buildup of stress. Though he used to be fairly hopeful and ambitious when he was younger, mostly wanting to please his father by becoming "the best," he had a complete psychological meltdown after the tournament incident. It resulted almost directly in Kid running away from home, abandoning his family name, and giving up on ever being ambitious again.
14. What does he fear?
Having his dreams crushed again and, by extension, ever having aspirations again.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
Nothing ... is what he tells people. Secretly, Kid would really like to prove himself as top-tier material, mostly as the best quarterback in Tokyo.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? Pretty much everything. Kid doesn't like telling people anything honest about himself -- name, identity, background, etc. Not that he'd freak out if people found out about the truth (e.g. Hiruma, Marco manage to dig up his background), but he would just prefer to avoid the attention his lineage and heritage tend to attract.
Relationships 1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Very poor. His father might have meant well, but the he pressured Kid too hard to become something he didn't express any real desire to become, and it ended up completely wrecking Kid's confidence and self-worth when he was still at a fairly young age. It can be assumed that Kid hasn't spoken to his father ever since he ran away from home at age 12. Nothing much is known about his mother, other than that she is probably also of a fairly high pedigree, and obviously didn't interfere much with his father's doings.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Nope. Only child.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
He probably holds a quiet, but powerful dislike for his father and wasn't nothing to do with him. Otherwise, he doesn't maintain any connections to his family.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Not really. He doesn't value family bonds very highly.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Tetsuma Jou. Tetsuma's father was Kid's father's driver, so they basically grew up together, having known each other since they were four. Tetsuma was probably the only bastion of safety and relaxation in Kid's life, and Kid always has and always will value him immensely. They started playing football together when they were still pretty young, with Kid saying he likes football far more than practicing with his pistol because it allows him to play together with Tetsuma.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Despite the fact that he keeps pretty private and to himself, he still seems to get along very well with the rest of the Seibu Wild Gunmans. Riku, in particular, he seems to have a somewhat brotherly relationship with -- Riku looks up and admires him, and he mentors Riku and supports him.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Makes friends fairly easily! Despite his secretive nature, he's pretty friendly and polite, and tends to have a lax, easy-going attitude about meeting people that makes him relaxing to be around.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Friends, by far. 9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single. Doesn't seem to have had any previous relationships.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
None.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Doesn't really look like he's the type to crush on people.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
By his own words, Kid doesn't have any specific type or preference. He kind of dodges the question of "what is your type" by saying "like for everyone else, wouldn't it be good if we could open up to each other?" He'd probably like someone who's quietly supportive of him, and that he could likewise be supportive of, without holding too many "unrealistic expectations."
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
HAHAHA no.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Plenty of rivals on the football field, mostly other quarterbacks. He seems to have the most direct rivalry with Hiruma, with plenty of mutual respect and acknowledgement involved. Agon looks down upon him like he does for everyone, but still seems to very grudgingly acknowledge his skills; on his part, Kid readily admits to Agon's talents, but otherwise seems wary of him and doesn't really want anything to do with him.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
3? Kid shows pretty much no attraction towards anyone over the course of the series, male or female. He doesn't seem like the type to balk about homosexuality or such, either.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Honestly, he might still be a virgin; he's only seventeen, after all. So -- sex probably doesn't play much of an important role in his life.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Uhhhhhh.
Beliefs 1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
For his Western zodiac, Kid is a Scorpio. The description of "very determined, reserved, loyal, and secretive" actually fits pretty well. "Proud" and "suspicious" aren't quite on target, though. For Chinese zodiac -- maybe Ox?
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Neither. However, Kid does seem to hold a very loose belief in something similar to karma and/or balance -- as in, everything good has an upcoming downside, and something good has to come after a lot of bad things happen. It doesn't seem particularly rooted in any religion, though, just part of his personal beliefs.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Nothing stated explicitly, but he's probably pretty morally upright. Unknown if/when he'd ever compromise it, but he'd probably be pretty reluctant to ever cause other people real harm.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Fairly tolerant and indifferent. What other people believe in is none of his business.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He's a little disbelieving about people who are overly ambitious, but he won't go so far as to rebuke or doubt them personally -- just more of a 'I could never do that' sort of view. Otherwise, he's pretty open to just about everything. He'll balk a bit when it comes to really vicious or malicious people (e.g. Agon), but that's just natural, isn't it?
Daily Life 1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
It's not really clear where or how Kid manages to get his living expenses from, since he presumably hasn't had anything to do with his family since he ran away, and doesn't seem to work any jobs. He might be living off a scholarship, maybe? Regardless, he generally has a pretty frugal, low-key lifestyle -- the most expensive thing he's ever bought is a small fridge ($300) for his apartment, so there's that.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
His social status has changed pretty drastically. Kid was probably something close to a celebrity when he was younger as only son of thoroughbred Olympic medalist and high-level competitor with the beam pistol. However, since he abandoned his name he's been enjoying a more quiet life. Though he does attract some attention for being the ace and not-leader of the Seibu Wild Gunmans, he seems to have been enjoying the anonymity and more quiet lifestyle that his pseudonym and false identity offer.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Going purely on a guess -- a dorm-style studio apartment, very cheap and small, but enough for a high-school student to be living in. It may or may not be shared with Tetsuma.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Nothing? Probably saves it up. Especially since Kid isn't really the type to want anything. Maybe clothes?
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
Student and American football player? He seems pretty content with his life. After he graduates from high school, he starts a small company with Tetsuma called Western & Car doing stunt work and trick shots, while Tetsuma contributes with his driving skills. It seems to do pretty well -- or at least, Hiruma believes that it's bound to be successful.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
American football, obviously. He also still seems to enjoy sport-shooting with pistols or revolvers, just not on a competitive level. Otherwise, he takes a lot of naps. Seems to like darts, a bit? (At least, he's really good at it.)
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Nothing special. Not picky with his food, but does eat enough to make up for all those rigorous practice sessions. Still a bit young for alcohol.
Associations Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is his favorite:
1. Color? Coppery-brown. 2. Smell? Gunpowder. 3. Time of day? Sunset. 4. Season? Autumn. 5. Book? 6. Music? 7. Place? 8. Substance? 9. Plant? 10. Animal? A purebred Groenendael-variant Belgian Sheepdog. :9
